Angavalanayagi (Dehasundari) Samedha Umamaheswarar temple, Konerirajapuram

The Angavalanayagi (Dehasundari) Samedha Umamaheswarar temple at Konerirajapuram is famous for the world’s largest bronze idol of Lord Nataraja.

In the third avatar of Vishnu, Varaha, God defeated Hiranyaksha and retrieved Bhumidevi from the bottom of the cosmic ocean. The avatar symbolises the resurrection of Earth from a deluge. Vishnu advised Bhumidevi to worship Lord Shiva to grant her stability. Bhumidevi travelled till she found Brahmatirtham beside an Aswatha tree. Bhumidevi established a SivaLingam at this place, for Siva, who grants her unshakeable strength and stability.
