Neelkanth Mahadev Temple

The Neelkanth Mahadev Temple (नीलकंठ महादेव मंदिर) is located at the sacred place that Lord Shiva drank the poison Halaahal (हलाहल) or Kalakootam (कालकूटं) that came out during the Samudra Manthan (Churning of the Ocean). Lord Shiva is called Neela-kanth (blue-neck), where ‘Neela’ means the colour blue, and ‘Kantha’ means neck.

The Temple is situated on top of a hill near Rishikesh, across the Ganga river. By road, the temple is 27 km from Rishikesh in the Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand. This is around 250 km from New Delhi.
